“The World Congress of Anaesthesiologists in 2008 will be held in Cape Town, South Africa in March 2008. This is the first time that this prestigious event has taken place on the African continent and it offers a unique opportunity to showcase all that Africa has to offer. The meeting will offer everything from the highest academic programme to typically African entertainment and hospitality in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. I urge all of my African colleagues to join the rest of the world in celebrating the achievements of anaesthesia in a uniquely African environment. This is a meeting that will truly have something for everyone! Ex Africa semper aliquid novi – Always something new out of Africa!”

Prof. Michael FM James, South Africa

Mike James is Head of Department of Anaesthesia, University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. He is the present president of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists.
