Basic Itinerary:
Day 1: Departure from Durban and transfer to Fugitives Drift Lodge or Isandlwana Lodge, via the scenic Natal North Coast
and the Zululand Route.
It was among the picturesque hills and rock formations of this weeping landscape, that fearless, spear-wielding footsoldiers
of the all-conquering Zulu kings first encountered the rampant British Empire’s sophisticated fire power.. and where each
faced the unfamiliar guerilla warfare tactics of the Boer – descendants of the west European settles who five generations
earlier had claimed divine right to this ‘Promised Land’.
The legacy of our Zulu Kingdom’s critical, blood-soaked conflicts today lives peacefully – reconciled in this fascinating
region’s myriad Battlefield sites, historic towns, national monuments and museums – and the HQs of the British regiments
that make ‘pilgrimage’ to these fields of bravery and supreme sacrifice.
Overnight : Fugitives Drift Lodge (FB) or Isandlwana Lodge (FB)
Day 2: This day is dedicated to the Battlefields, either in the form of lectures or walks, together with a specialist guide.
However, while knowledgeable, friendly and accredited local guides guarantee hours of captivating company, it is possible to
‘escape’ the clutches of history – hunting, fishing, and many more activities.
Overnight : Fugitives Drift Lodge (FB) or Isandlwana Lodge (FB)
Day 3: After some more activities, sadly you bid farewell to the Natal Battlefields, as your driver will collect you and
return to Durban via part of the Natal Midlands.
