NATURE AND OUTDOOR

Victoria Falls from the Zambian side

Hush! What’s that sound? That rumble in the jungle? It’s Mosi-oa-Tunya, the "smoke that thunders"… Mosi-oa-Tunya – Anglicized in 1855 by David Livingstone who named the thunderous mass of cascading water after Queen Victoria – is the world’s largest and most magnificent series of falls. On this 4-day safari tour you’ll come face to face with the awe-inspiring drama of this spectacle – one of the seven wonders of the world.

You’ll be there in March – the green season – so the mighty Zambezi will be in full force. You’ll feel the spray from afar, and watch the mist that rises over 400 metres. At full moon, you can se a "moonbow" in the spray, a moment you’ll treasure forever. Your base will be the nearby 3-star hotel, The Zambezi Sun. Acknowledging its African setting, the hotel welcomes you into its adobe-style interiors. Simple finishes highlight bright mosaics and fabrics and the intoxicating environment is characterised by ethnic wall stencils, timber and plaster ceilings, and Zambian artworks. The hotel is a series of eight buildings, consisting of the guest rooms, a central pavilion of restaurants and a convention centre.

Take respite from the African sun in one of the cool guest rooms with their deep, rich, red earth colour of the rounded planes of the walls. Emerge in time for a leisurely sunset cruise on the Zambezi, drifting past palm-fringed islands teeming with wild life. Sunset is drinking time, and you’ll see plenty of activity as buffalo, antelope and even elephant come down to the water’s edge for their sundowners. Talking about elephants, nowhere else in Africa will you come across more of these huge beasts that at the Chobe National Park in Botswana. A day trip to Chobe is included in your tour. An optional "Flight of Angels" (a helicopter flip over the Falls) or Elephant Back safari will etch unforgettable memories on your mind.
