NATURE AND OUTDOOR

Botswana – CHOBE WILDLIFE and OKAVANGO DELTA

These two action-packed tours will introduce you to “The Last Eden” – Botswana, an unspoilt country of contrasts north of South Africa, where desert and delta co-exist. It is nature’s most extraordinary contradiction: cool swamps meeting scorching sands. First, a quick orientation: In the northwest, the Okavango River empties into the Kalahari sands, creating the largest inland river delta in the world. The millions of litres of water that reach the desert every day simply disappear into it! Nearby, in a northeasterly direction, lies Chobe National Park, an expansive grassland reserve famous for its abundant elephant population. Almost the entire remaining portion of the country is covered by the Kalahari Desert. While only sparsely inhabited by humans, this is one of the richest wildlife regions in all of Africa.

The Chobe tour:

Day 1: Touch down on Kasane Airport, next stop Chobe National Park! Here you are bound to come across the greatest number of animals you’ve ever seen in the wild. This afternoon you’ll explore the park in open safari vehicles. Your host is a professional guide, who will thrill you with close encounters of the wild kind! The bird life is exceptional; the scenery lush; the atmosphere magical! As dusk approaches, savour the beauty of an African sunset before settling in for the night in the luxury Cresta Mowana Lodge on the tree-lined banks of the magnificent Chobe River. ("Mowana" means "Great Baobab" in Setswana. The entire reception area is built around the massive trunk of an ancient Baobab tree.)

Day 2: Your adventure begins with the African continent’s best boat-based game viewing. Embark on a morning cruise on the lazy Chobe River, snaking its way trough the Caprivi flood plains. Enjoy coffee, tea and snacks with a view: on either side you’ll see the immense diversity of wildlife of the plains… huge herds of buffalo and elephant, zebra, wildebeest and impala. Look closer and you’ll see more… lion, hyena, the elusive leopard, the now rare wild dog, pods of hippo and some basking crocodiles. Back ashore, it’s time for lunch – a delicious event that will sustain you for the rest of your African adventure this afternoon. On an edge-of-your-seat optional game drive, you’ll travel through the four distinctive vegetation zones of the National Park: the Chobe River, Serondella with its dense, jungle-like forests and lush plains, the Savuti, and the Linyanti Swamps. After a full day of discovery, it’s back to the comfort of Cresta Mowana Lodge for the night.

Day 3: After a final spectacular game activity this morning, you’ll be transferred back to Kasane Airport for a departure flight. Or you can travel back to Victoria Falls by road for your connecting flight.
